INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE | 21 SEPTEMBER
Peace Is a Right… and a Responsibility That Begins with Us
On the International Day of Peace, the Sudanese Initiative for Nonviolence and Development (STAND) stands with everyone who believes that peace is not merely the absence of war, but a fundamental human right grounded in dignity, justice, equality, and respect for human rights.
In Sudan, where war has brought loss of life, displacement, destruction, and immense suffering, the need to promote a culture of peace and reject violence has never been greater. Building a peaceful future requires dialogue, understanding, and a commitment to a Sudan where differences can be addressed without violence.
Sustainable peace cannot be built through agreements alone. It begins with respect for human life, the protection of civilians, rejection of hate speech and incitement, promotion of dialogue, and support for community-led initiatives that strengthen coexistence, solidarity, and trust among Sudanese people.
We believe that peace is not a distant dream. It is a right that all people deserves.
On this day, we renew our call to:
– Protect civilians and uphold human rights.
– Reject violence, hate speech, and incitement.
– Promote dialogue as a means of addressing conflicts.
– Strengthen the role of women, youth, and communities in peacebuilding.
– Work toward Sudan founded on peace, justice, dignity, and sustainable development.
Peace begins with individuals… and grows within communities.
