Kampala, Uganda The Sudanese Initiative for Nonviolence and Development (STAND) proudly announces its active and significant participation in a crucial 3-day consultative workshop on Peace Building for Regional Civil Societies. Held in Kampala from May 31st to June 2nd, the workshop, aptly titled “Setting Priorities for Sustainable Peace in Sudan and the Region,” brought together a diverse and dedicated group of representatives from civil society organizations across Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Collaborating for Sustainable Peace in Sudan and Beyond Organized by ONAD South Sudan and Salamedia Center, this vital gathering served as a dynamic platform for in-depth discussions, collaborative strategizing, and the forging of stronger regional partnerships in the pursuit of lasting peace. STAND, true to its mission, played a pivotal role throughout the proceedings, contributing valuable insights and expertise to the complex challenges of conflict transformation and sustainable development in the region, particularly focusing on Sudan. The workshop’s agenda encompassed a comprehensive exploration of key issues impacting peace and stability, fostering a shared understanding of the intricate dynamics at play. Participants engaged in rigorous sessions, sharing best practices, identifying common obstacles, and collectively brainstorming innovative solutions. A Strategic Plan for Regional Civil Society Action This intensive collaborative effort culminated in the successful development of a strategic plan. This comprehensive document, poised for adoption by the intended regional civil society consortium, meticulously outlines key priorities and actionable steps designed to promote and sustain peace in the wider region. The plan reflects the collective wisdom and commitment of civil society actors from across the participating nations, aiming to create a more coordinated and impactful approach to peacebuilding. STAND’s Enduring Commitment to Nonviolence and Development For STAND, this workshop represents a significant step forward in its ongoing commitment to fostering a more peaceful and prosperous Sudan. As an independent, non-governmental, and non-profit organization established and officially registered in Uganda in 2025, STAND is dedicated to empowering communities through nonviolent conflict transformation, promoting development through civic engagement and community empowerment, and advocating for good governance through enhanced community participation, accountability, and transparency. STAND’s participation in the Kampala workshop underscores its dedication to collaborative action and its belief in the power of civil society to drive meaningful change. By actively contributing to the strategic plan and engaging with regional counterparts, STAND is reinforcing its position as a beacon of hope for a future where nonviolence and sustainable development prevail in Sudan and the broader region.
