Advancing the Role of civilians in the Pursuit of Peaceful Transformation in Sudan
Project Background
Sudan is experiencing a brutal conflict between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in massive displacement and human suffering. Civilians are the primary victims, and their divisions have weakened their voice in calling for peace. The Sudanese Initiative for Nonviolence and Development (STAND) aims to support civilian forces in achieving unity and working together towards common goals.
Project Summary
The project, “Advancing the Role of Civilians in the Pursuit of Peaceful Transformation in Sudan,” seeks to enhance the efforts of active and influential Sudanese civilians. The program will bring together civilians to break barriers, build trust, and collectively work towards stopping the war and establishing a civilian-led democratic transition. The project will involve research, workshops, and capacity-building activities to promote unity, advocacy, and nonviolent conflict resolution.
Implementation Plan
The project will be implemented in two rounds. Round 1 will involve research and analysis of active Sudanese civilian coalitions, as well as papers on youth and women inclusion, factors preventing unity, and the role of media in enhancing the political process. A 5-day workshop will bring together 45 participants to discuss and develop recommendations. Round 2 will include workshops on advocacy, strategic communication, and nonviolence methods, followed by a 1-day workshop on way-forward planning. The project aims to empower civilians, particularly youth and women, to play a pivotal role in stopping the war and achieving democratic transformation
